Abstract:

These data represent D14C values as a function of depth for water column dissolved inorganic carbon samples that were collected in 2011 and 2012 that were stored and recently analyzed.

Purpose:

To characterize the dissolved inorganic carbon fraction in the Gulf water column in terms of 14C.

Methods:

Sea water was collected at the indicated depth in tripped bottles. Water was recovered on deck and filtered with combusted GFF Whatman glass-fibre filters, and then stored in pre-evacuated glass vials sealed with butyl stoppers. Phosphoric acid (1mL of 20%) was added to each sample, to preserve for shipment to Florida State University. D14C-DIC samples were prepared by He stripping and cryogenic trapping into 6mm pyrex tubes and sent to National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Facility (OS sample numbers) or Laurence Livermore National Lab (numeric only numbers), column 7.

Error Analysis:

Average sample replication is 3.5 per mil in Delta 14C units, Column 6
