Abstract:

The simulation data generated are from two sources: validation for the breakup model is accomplished by solving a system of population balance equations (the “ODE model.”). A large-eddy simulation (LES) is used to model oil droplets transported by a turbulent jet subjected to a uniform cross-flow. The breakup model is compared to the experimental results of Eastwood et al (2004). Data used to create the figures in the associated paper are included in this dataset. In addition to a series of Readme files, a dataset description document describe the structure of the dataset and the variable names and units. This dataset supports the publication: Aiyer, A. Purpose:

To develop a model to study droplet breakup and evolution of polydisperse drops in a turbulent flow generated using Large Eddy Simulations.

Data Parameters and Units:

There are different types of data presented. All length scales are in metres ( droplet diameter reported in micrometres.) 1. number density - (# of droplets/ m^3/\mu m) 2. droplet diameter - Either in meters (m) or micrometer (\mu m) 3 dissipation - m^2/s^3 4. droplet breakup timescale - S_{b,i}/n_i ( 1/s) 5. Breakup frequency g (1/s) Please note that details of the individual files are provided in the accompanying dataset_description.pdf, which describes the structure of the dataset as well as the file formats and units.

Methods:

The model domain is a rectangular box (L_x, L_y, and L_z) = (2, 0.78, 1) meter. The grid is N_x x N_y x N_z = 384x150x384, and the time step is 0.0002s.
