Abstract:

Methane data was collected to look at the seeps at the site. Water current (speed and direction) and temperature data was also collected to look at the point sources. Oxygen data was collected using optode sensors inside and out of a chimney to look at the total oxygen consumption (TOU) of the sediment. Water current (speed and direction), temperature, turbidity, conductivity, pressure, data was also collected. Data was collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico from March 5th to April 26th, 2016.

Purpose:

Using this data we can track methane plumes and looks at the effect of the surrounding community and water column. The oxygen data was collected to calculate the TOU of the sediment and other observational sensors were used to track parameters within the site. This data can also be using to target grab sample for further detailed analysis.

Data Parameters and Units:

For variables with numbers after them: This number corresponds to the cell number. In total there were 40 cells, each having a height of 2.5 m and an overlap of 20% (10% on top and 10% on bottom); Cell 1 then is equal to 2 m off of the seafloor and cell 40 is equal to 80 m off the seafloor; Cells that are blank: data was removed that exceeded a speed horizontal std of 14, and also if it was recorded when the ADCP was operating outside of factory normal conditions.
