Abstract:

Data were collected using instrument packages deployed on a deep see lander. The lander was deployed in an active hydrocarbon seepage field. Oxygen data were collected using optode sensors inside and out of a chimney to look at the total oxygen consumption (TOU) of the sediment. Water current (speed and direction) and temperature data were also collected to look at the point sources. Data were collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico from September 16th to October 7th, 2016.

Purpose:

Using these data we can track methane plumes and looks at the effect of the surrounding community and water column. Data can also be used to target grab samples for further detailed analysis and calculate total oxygen consumption (TOU).
