Abstract:

Methane data was collected using METS sensor to look at the seeps at the site. Water current (speed and direction) and temperature data was also collected to look at the point sources. Oxygen data was collected using optode sensors inside and out of a chimney to look at the total oxygen consumption (TOU) of the soil. Water current (speed and direction), temperature, turbidity, conductivity, pressure, data was also collected. Samples were collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico from August 31st to September 15th, 2015.

Purpose:

Using this data we can track methane plumes and looks at the effect of the surrounding community and water column. This data can also be used to target grab samples for further detailed analysis. The oxygen data was collected to calculate the TOU of the soil and other observational sensors were used to track parameters within the site.
