Abstract:

A moored Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler measured current velocity as a part of operations conducted in the northern Gulf of Mexico, in Bureau of Energy Management (BOEM) lease block MC297. Data were collected from 2012-06-21 to 2016-09-11. The ADCP was moored at 28.6796°N, -88.3608°E in 1655 m of water to measure velocities at the bottom of a sediment trap. Sediment trap contents can be found in related datasets under GRIIDC Unique Dataset Identifiers (UDIs): R4.x268.000:0057 (10.7266/N7F47M6M ), R4.x268.000:0058 (10.7266/N79C6VHB), R4.x268.000:0059 (10.7266/N7XK8CZS), R4.x268.000:0060 (10.7266/N78W3BQJ ), R4.x268.000:0061 (10.7266/N71C1V8T), R4.268.000:0077 (10.7266/N7W66J7K), and R4.x268.000:0082 (10.7266/N737775J). Current measurements at the base of sediment deployed on a long-term mooring in BOEM block OC26.

Ensemble number [enum], Year [YY], Month [MM], Day [DD], Hour [HH], Minute [MM], Seconds [SS], Echo Amplitude (27 bins, [counts]); Correlation (27 bins, [counts]); Velocity, Eastward direction (27 bins, [mm/s]); Northward velocity [27 bins, [mm/s]); Vertical velocity (27 bins, [mm/s]), Error on velocity (27 bins, [mm/s]), Velocity magnitude (27 bins, [mm/s]), Velocity direction (27 bins, [degrees, true]).

Methods:

The ADCP was moored at 28.6796°N, -88.3608°E in 1655 m of water. Bin sizes were 4 m, measuring between 6.4 and 110.2 m above the bottom.
