Abstract:

16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to identify the sediment microbial community response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Sediments were collected before, during and after the oil spill and 16S rRNA gene sequences were acquired via Sanger DNA sequencing. Samples were collected between May 2010-July 2011.

Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the diversity of the microbial community response to the Deepwater Horizon spill via sequencing the 16S rRNA gene from sediments collected before and after the spill.
