Abstract:

Depth-discrete plankton samples were collected during a cruise in the northern Gulf of Mexico (October-November 2015) using a Bedford Institute of Oceanography Net Environmental Sampling System (BIONESS). The BIONESS (0.25 m2 opening) was fitted with 333-µm and 202-µm mesh nets; phyllosoma counts included here were only from the 333-µm mesh nets. Plankton samples were collected along three sampling corridors as part the CONCORDE project, and were used to confirm Phyllosoma identifications from ISIIS image analyses.

Purpose:

Data were collected during the CONCORDE Fall 2015 cruise to 1) estimate plankton abundances and distributions in association with variable hydrographic features and 2) provide identifiable plankton specimens to groundtruth and compliment plankton estimates based on ISIIS transects.
