Abstract:

This dataset includes microsatellite data from 13 populations of adult Tabanus nigrovittatus sampled in coastal Louisiana in 2010-2011. Ten microsatellite loci were genotyped from a total of 335 individuals collected from 4 locations from July through November in 2010 and 2011. The genotype data for these samples can be found in the dataset.

Purpose:

Microsatellites were developed to study population genetics to monitor impact of the Deepwater Horizon Oil spill on Tabanid population and to monitor recovery of Tabanid populations post-oil spill.The project is designed to collect data on a tabanid species that will contribute to the evaluation of the short and long-term impact of the spill on tidal marsh health. The objectives also are aimed at generating information that would provide a platform for studies to establish tabanids as model entomological bioindicators of tidal marsh community health for coastal ecological studies and evaluation of future insults to the tidal marshes.
