Abstract:

This data set includes pendant drop interfacial tension, volume, and surface area measurements using a Kruss DSA 100 tensiometer. Measurements were conducted to gain a more complete understanding of the dispersant, Corexit 9500, behavior at oil-water interfaces. Specifically, the dynamic interfacial tension was measured for stagnant and oscillatory pendant drops in both fresh water and salt water systems with Corexit 9500 concentrations varying from 0 wt% to 10 wt% of the aqueous phase. This provides insight into the adsorption rates and dilational rheology of Corexit 9500 stabilized interfaces.

Purpose:

The effectiveness of a dispersant depends on its ability to adsorb to an interface to reduce interfacial tension and stabilize emulsion droplets. Therefore, we explore the dynamics and effect of Corexit 9500 adsorption to oil-water interfaces via pendant drop tensiometry.
