Abstract:

​​The R/V Atlantis cruise AT26-13 set sail with the HOV Alvin on board on March 30, 2014. The objectives of the cruise were to visit sites impacted by the Macondo Blowout as well as n​atural seeps sites dominated by oil and gas discharge. The science team included biological and chemical oceanographers, geochemists, microbiologists, as well as a tream equipped for remote sensing and documentation of seafloor dynamics using in situ camera systems. The cruise sailed on March 30 and returned April 23. GoMRI funded Alvin dives occurred on March 31st and April 1st of 2014. This dataset includes sediment samples collected on those dives.

Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to investigate sediment geochemistry in the northern Gulf of Mexico to track the continuing impact of the Deepwater Horizon blowout.
