GRIIDC 2023 Highlights

Goodbye 2023, hello 2024! GRIIDC has some big things planned for 2024 but before we get started, let’s take a look back at some of GRIIDC’s highlights from 2023!

January

GRIIDC Program Manager Rosalie Rossi attended the Florida Restore Act Centers of Excellence Program (FLRACEP) All-Hands Meeting at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida, to provide training to researchers regarding data submission and data management best practices.

February

GRIIDC virtually attended the Mississippi Based RESTORE Act Center of Excellence (MBRACE) All-Hands Meeting.

March

GRIIDC provided training and discussion to researchers involved in the Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems (CCME-II) consortium.

GRIIDC’s software team added a new section to the Dataset Information Form (DIF). Users can now provide more specific information regarding the funder of a dataset.

May

GRIIDC started working with Amazee Labs to design a new front end of the GRIIDC website!

June

The Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA) All-Hands Meeting was held in Austin, Texas. GRIIDC’s Rosalie Rossi and Dr. Deborah LeBel hosted a booth at the conference and participated in the Tools Café.

August

GRIIDC released the new multisearch page on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Gulf Research Program subsite. The multisearch allows for the search of both datasets and information products.

November

GRIIDC’s software development team implemented standardized field of research and topic keywords for datasets. Standardized keywords increase the findability and interoperability of data submitted to GRIIDC. While researchers are not currently required to provide these keywords, drop-down selection menus will be added to the Dataset Information Form and dataset submission interface in 2024.

GRIIDC participated in a meeting to discuss data management for the the newly-awarded Mississippi River Delta Transition Initiative (MissDelta) funded by the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

December

GRIIDC’s Program Manager, Rosalie Rossi, virtually attended the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting. The meeting had over 25,000 participants from more than 100 countries. As always, AGU hosted many data-oriented sessions of particular interest to GRIIDC, with topics including data management best practices and supporting FAIR data.
